The first time we interviewed her in 2007, she had just given birth to her second child barely three months earlier but she was glowing like she always did. Two years later, we ran another interview with her. Three years on and three kids later, Evelyn, all svelte and motherly, is still donning healthy skin and painting a picture of bliss. (Can you blame us for putting her on the cover of JnU over and over again?) Being a mother of three, on top of being pulled in so many directions, and still looking this delicious? Seriously, I’m a happy camper if I were Darren Lim! It is no easy task being a mother. She is a nurturer, an educator, a medic (pg 23), a disciplinarian, a friend, a protector (pg 37) and a provider all at once. She is also the helpdesk, the information kiosk, the first aid officer, the cook, and the concierge. And whether she holds a full-time job or is a homemaker, a mother needs to stay plugged in with the world so she remains in touch with society and in tune with her children. In other words, she must behave like an iPhone: reliable, sophisticated, knowledgeable and functional, looks kempt (pg 48) and cool to hang around with, and most importantly, has everything under control with a wave of the finger – a la Super Nannystyle (pg 51). But that said, even an iPhone needs downtime to recharge. Go declare yourself a holiday this Mother’s Day. Let the husband take the reins around the house for a change. (Don’t step into the picture unless the stove is on fire.) My guess is, he’ll appreciate you a lot more after that. Rest and relax, rejuvenate and refresh because you deserve it.
